Air Pollution Control Equipment

How Tarmac Baghouses work

A Tarmac Asphalt Plant Baghouse is sized for your system, and they fall under the broader term of Air Pollution Control Equipment. Dust-laden air enters the dusty or lower side of the baghouse and flows upward through the filter bags and tubesheet and into the clean or upper top side of the housing.

Filter bags capture dust, and a pulsing system periodically clears the bags. Dust removed from the filters falls into a hopper and conveyors or augers move it out of the baghouse and back into the drum mixer.

You Will Achieve Your Best Production Rate With A Properly Sized Baghouse

Sizing Baghouses

You will achieve your best production rate with a properly sized baghouse. It allows the dryer to vent gas to the baghouse from the rotary dryer at the required flow rate and sustain production. Sizing a baghouse requires the calculation of the gas volume required. Tarmac uses a Mass Balance for every rotary dryer project.

A baghouse that is too small can raise the differential pressure across the tubesheet even if the baghouse is pulsing as fast as it can. This restricts the production capability. If the dust cannot be held at the proper thickness:

  1. An increase in WC will occur.
  2. Air flow through the system chokes down.
  3. The fan is unable to pull gas through the baghouse.
  4. The drying system’s production will fail.

If this happens, your team stops the drying system and the baghouse cleaned out by continued pulsing. Then the drying system restarts at a lower production level.

If a baghouse is undersized, the production of the drying system must be decreased to the level where the baghouse can maintain the proper level of dust buildup on the bags.
