Tarmac International is one of the global leaders in the rotary dryer industry. We specialize in the manufacture and supply of complete rotary drying systems which include Frac Sand, Fly Ash, Aggregate, and others.

Based in our Lee’s Summit, Missouri (Kansas City) office, an opportunity exists for a hands-on Senior Controls Engineer with automation and controls experience. You will report directly to the Electrical Controls Engineering Manager and be responsible for the design, production, installation, and commissioning of manufactured products.


To be a success, you will:

  • Design and program PLC and HMI based control systems.
  • Have a working knowledge of low and medium voltage power systems.
  • Have experience in control system design integration with electromechanical devices and instrumentation (selection, configuration & calibration).
  • Lead factory acceptance tests to demonstrate design and programming has met project specifications.
  • Understanding of standard communication protocols TCP/IP, Modbus.
  • Support the sales department with engineering sales requests (custom designs, renders, specifications, installation drawings, etc.).
  • Support the sales department with bill of materials, shop aids, schematics, inspection reports, and training.
  • Support the service department with maintenance and repair of equipment and field installations.
  • Administer engineering procedures such as engineering change notices (ECN) and corrective action reports (CAR).
  • Participate in the weekly engineering meetings and ensure that agreed upon actions are initiated and met.

Technical skills we require from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science Engineering. Or Equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced PLC ladder logic and HMI programming.
  • Proficiency with electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in design, development, programming, and field commissioning experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Allen Bradley based Studio 5000 controllers and CCW base controllers.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing for product manuals, work instructions, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel.

  • Basic understanding of Rotary Dryer technology and processes.
  • AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
  • Emerson Movicon HMI products
  • Microsoft Excel Visual Basic.
