What is ASR?
The shredding of automobiles and major household appliances is a process where a hammermill acts as a giant tree chipper by grinding them into fist-size pieces. A fluffy waste remains called automotive shredder residue (ASR). It is made up of glass, fiber, rubber, plastics but also contains ferrous and non-ferrous metal. These valuable metals typically make up 18 to 20 percent of the total weight of ASR. Recycling these metals increases profits and also keeps it out of landfills.
Tarmac International, Inc. Rotary Thermal Drying Systems are the first step in ASR recycling by drying the residue. Reducing the moisture gives the metal recycling plant a higher percentage of recovered metals.
