FRAC SAND

Frac sand is a type of sand that is used in the hydraulic fracturing process to extract oil and natural gas from shale rock formations. It is different from regular sand in a few ways:

  • Regular sand is made up of a variety of minerals, including quartz, feldspar, and mica. However, quartz makes up frac sand, high-purity silica sand.
  • Frac sand is very round and uniform in size. Regular sand is more irregular in shape and size.
  • Frac sand is very strong and durable. Regular sand is not as strong or durable.

These differences make frac sand ideal for use in the hydraulic fracturing process. The high-purity silica sand is able to withstand the high pressures and temperatures involved in the process. The round, uniform size of the sand particles helps to create a more effective seal in the fractures. And the strong, durable nature of the sand helps to prevent it from breaking down during the process.
