Aggregate Drying,
An international customer contacted Tarmac with a complicated problem. They receive tons of a fine gradation product off ships, dry it, and load the dried product into trucks. The key to this drying project was to remove the exterior surface moisture of the product without removing the internal moisture. The product was Alumina Trihydrate, the fine powder within a fire extinguisher. The internal moisture had to be maintained but without external moisture.
- Tarmac solved this requirement by using an “Air Heater” rotary dryer. The combustion gas temperature entering the dryer at 1,500° F is reduced to between 500° F and 700° F.
- The effort was a success, and the customer was able to Toll tonnages of Alumina Trihydrate into an East Coast port with the external moisture removed and then distribute this product within the Eastern United States. TI284
