Remediation,

This client is an oil field service company in the United States. They had bid on a large thermal remediation project at the Brasi oil refinery in Romania. For decades refineries stored oil waste generated in large open lakes. The bid was to empty the lake, remediate the land and recover the oil. The goal for the oil products was sellable liquid oil products. If that wasn’t possible, they would be combusted.

As with the project (LINK) near Ploiesti, Romania, the team pumped liquid from the lakes. This project used a floating barge with heat and a submerged pump to lift the liquids from the lake and send them into a centrifuge. This centrifuge was a tricanter, which successfully separated oil, water, and solids. The site sold oil as a number 3 oil, reused water, and excavated and treated the contaminated solids with a double Tarmac Remediation plant. Remediated solids were then used to backfill the area and recover the land. TI162
